Greetings Harley-Davidson Enthusiasts!!
We’d like to introduce you to L.I. Harley Riders. The Club has been in formation for over a decade and we have many dedicated riders from all walks of life. We are a charter of the American Motorcycle Association (AMA). There is always plenty going on … not only with riding but also social events and goodwill efforts. We ride in a safe, structured group formation with multiple Road Captains controlling the ride using GPS navigation and CB radios.
During the winter months, our riding is typically confined to the Island and we try to get out each weekend that Mother Nature allows. As the weather warms up, we begin day rides off the Island to various destinations in PA, the Hudson Valley or Catskill regions of NY, as well as CT and MA. When possible, we incorporate Points of Interest (POI’s) into the rides to make them more interesting. There are also a number of multi-state overnight trips planned and led by the Road Captains. The overnighters can be anything from a single night overnighter to a week-long journey. The Road Captains work hard at finding interesting and challenging roads, along with roadside attractions, local eateries and scenic photo opportunities.
We meet each month over coffee and bagels at the VFW in Huntington Station to keep members up to date on upcoming rides and events. We also send out Weekly Emails and Monthly Newsletters to all members. The club also has a private Facebook page for members to access and stay up to date. Each year we have meetings that end with a Chili Contest, St. Patty’s Day Pot Luck lunch, an Octoberfest lunch or a Poker Run fundraiser. Other events include a Polar Bear Ride on or about New Years Day, a Mother’s Day Ride, Father’s Day Ride, a Summer BBQ Party and a Holiday Party in early December. Our Activities Coordinators also set up Bike Nights during the summer months, movie nights, bowling nights and even axe throwing!
Just like many in the motorcycling community, the L.I. Harley Riders likes to give back to others. Each year we fundraise for the Child Life Program at NYU Langone in Mineola. The Poker Run that we do during the year raises money for Long Island Veterans and we deliver necessities to them purchased from proceeds of the Poker Run. As the holidays near, we make a visit and bring gifts to the children at the Sagamore Children’s Psychiatric Center in Dix Hills. The kids absolutely love it when we come in with dozens of bikes and lots of gifts.
While we have many seasoned male and female riders, there are riders of all skill levels. If you are comfortable riding in a group formation, and enjoy spending time with other like-minded Harley-Davidson enthusiasts, we invite you to reach out to us for membership or attend a complimentary monthly membership meeting to learn more about us. You’ll meet lots of welcoming riders who love the sport of motorcycling.
